Boost Productivity with These Classroom Colours

A while ago, the team at A&J Painters & Decorators wrote about how the colour scheme in a workplace can affect employees. This time, we turn our attention to classroom colours and discuss what kind of decor is best for calm productivity.

Many teachers want to hang lots of things on the walls and although this can seem appealing to an adult eye, it can also easily lead to a young child feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated. Informative posters or art pieces are great, but should be displayed in an orderly way that compliments the colours of the rest of the room.

Young children are often drawn to primary colours, but you can keep this vibrant feel, without creating an overstimulating room by using warmer tones of these shades.

The choice of decor and classroom colours for many schools is often left down to the maintenance departments, administrators or teachers and due to restrictions on budget, walls are often left white. However, a large budget isn’t always needed to create a welcoming environment.

To make the school environment feel cohesive, you may want to consider creating a feature wall in each classroom. This not only keeps a running theme and provides a splash of colour to enhance creativity.

If you are only planning on changing a communal area and not individual classrooms, don’t be afraid to experiment with using multiple colours in one space. When done correctly, this can give a room several zones which can be conducive to downtime, work or creative activities.

Sometimes, schools are restricted to only having plain walls. Where this is the case, painting the doors and fencing around the school can make for a welcoming environment, that not only looks well kept to others from the outside, but also provides splashes of colour for those using the building.

At A&J Painters and Decorators, we have a wealth of experience in carrying out painting and decorating in both commercial and domestic environments and can help you choose the most suitable classroom colours.
