Tips for Painting The Outside of Your House

Painting the exterior of your home comes with its own set of challenges, not least because of the outside elements. However, there are a few things you can do to help this task run smoothly.

Check the Weather

It may sound obvious, but when you have the urge to begin a project, it can be easy to go in with all cylinders firing and forget to check a few necessary things. First of all, check the weather to ensure that your handy work won’t be affected.

It will be much easier to carry out your work in a mild climate without extreme temperatures, wind or rain getting in your way.

If the sun is beating down, begin painting in a shaded area to give the paint an adequate amount of time to dry. Paint that dries too quickly may blister and flake prematurely.

Prepare Your Surface

Just like any other surface, it is important that you prepare the outside of your home to be painted by cleaning it off any dirt and debris. You can paint over existing paint, as long as it is smooth and in good condition.

Painting Equipment

In order to make light work of painting the exterior of your home, you will need to ensure you have the correct equipment.

Many people often use spray guns to paint large surfaces quickly. However, when it comes to more intricate areas or doors, you may want to use a roller or brush, depending on the size of the surface.
